FAQs

What time does it start?

For Reception through to year 4, games start at 10am. Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 games start at 11am. Under 16s will follow after this and play from midday to 1pm. We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand to allow time to get changed and find which pitch you are playing on.

Do I need to bring anything?

All children are expected to wear shin pads and suitable footwear. Children without shin pads WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY. We have some donated pairs of football boots and we do sell shin pads at cost price if you need to purchase some.

Can younger children play?

Little League is advertised as 5-13 years. This is due to our affiliation to the Little League organization and the insurance we have covers children within this age range. If your son or daughter is 4 and wants to join in, it is at the parents discretion to determine whether this is suitable.

Can older children play?

The age range of under 13 is as of 1st September of that year. All children who are in year 8 of secondary school are eligible to play even after they turn 13. We do not cater for children above this age although they are welcome to come along and help out.

Are there ways I can help out?

Colliers Wood Little League is an entirely voluntary organization and we have a whole range of tasks and activities for which we need assistance. Whether it is helping set up or put away, running the catering, laundry or cleaning up, all help is welcomed. We also need referees, coaches and managers so if you would like to get involved, please ask.

What if the weather is bad?

We endeavor to keep everyone informed if there are any cancelled sessions. If the council ask us not to use the grounds, they usually make this call by Friday morning and we will email and use social media to keep people informed. Please make sure we have all your correct details and inform us if you are not receiving notifications. If it is a last minute decision, we will always send a tweet which also appears on our facebook page and our website. Please do check if you are unsure but assume things are going ahead unless you hear otherwise.

Is Little League free?

Little League is free for all but we do ask for a £10 donation per child to help with running costs. This is a one-off payment and covers the whole year.

Where are the games played?

We play our matches on Colliers Wood Recreation ground which is opposite Singlegate school, South Gardens.

Look out for the green huts!

Can boys and girls play?

We encourage both girls and boys of all abilities to play football.

What if I am not very good?

Although we play weekly matches we are not a competitive club and encourage everyone to have a go.

I want to be a footballer when I grow up!

Little league is a great place to start "grass roots" football. We are not affiliated to the F.A, but have level 1 qualified coaches to help get you started.
